Hope you’ve all had a relaxing couple of days. For me they’ve been a little stressful. Settling here in Kuwait is going to take some time. I’m a big worrier, I tend to overthink things way too much, and to be completely honest, I was pretty scared sleeping on my own for the first time. On the first night, I only got about 2 hours sleep because my mind was racing, worrying about anything from being burgled to experiencing my first earthquake. It sounds a bit pathetic but coming from a small village in Hertfordshire, where I was protected in bubble wrap my whole childhood and never having to worry about a thing, and then moving to a whole other country with a complete culture change is an extremely overwhelming experience for me. Not only that, but I’m so close to my family so it’s going to be weird to not see them everyday. Thankfully my Dad flew out with me to help settle me in, and to check out the country himself so he knows where I’ll be staying. My mum’s coming a week later too, so I guess that gives them peace of mind knowing where I am, and it gives me comfort knowing that my parents are aware of where I’m staying as well. After January 20th when they both go back home, I’ll be completely on my own. But I’m okay with that, because sometimes you need to dive into the deep end to deal with things and gain better life experiences.
So after a restless night I went off to explore the city, Salmiya. There wasn’t a lot of exciting things to do where we were dropped off, other than to look around some shopping centre that sold food, beauty products, toys and a few garments. We had a quick look but decided to take a walk on the streets, have coffee and watch the sun set…
I slept much better last night, and even had a lie in until midday to make up for the lack of sleep from the night before! After dragging myself out of bed, I headed to the Marina which as expected, was beautiful. I walked around the shopping mall which was right by the marina harbour, had a play around at the beach and then rested for dinner and coffee.
I’m still trying to work out what the hell to do around here though! Everywhere I go seems so quiet during the day. I guess it’s because everyone’s at work until 5, but I’ll just keep exploring for now until I find my go-to place.
Until next time,
