We all know there’s nothing better than some tasty grub right? Well I’ll let you know one thing, Kuwait does great food. So good that I already need to watch my weight and I’ve only been here for two weeks! This country is notorious for its restaurants, and they’re so popular that there’s even a road full of them in Salmiya. It’s called Mataam Street which apparently translates to ‘Restaurant Street’. The only downfall to all this good food though, is that it gets quite costly and it’s super easy to gain weight. A common thing to do in your spare time in Kuwait is to eat out or relax in a cafe; gyms are really expensive too and everybody seems to drive or catch a taxi to places, so it’s pretty easy to become a little chubby. But look how delicious it all looks!
You’re probably wondering why on earth I would eat aniseed and sugar cubes. Well it’s meant to help with digestion, bloating and intestinal cramps after meals. You take a teaspoon of roasted aniseeds and a spoonful of sugar cubes. At first I thought the waiter was pulling my leg because the whole thing was strange to me, but after a good few chews, it actually tasted quite nice. Now I don’t know if this remedy is just an old wives’ tale but I reckon I could eat it after every meal to see if actually works, although I wouldn’t go out of my way to buy it.
So, my favourite dish to this day has to be the chicken liver with lemon and garlic sauce however, the chocolate fondant was definitely up there, it was so warm and gooey in the middle and the ice cream just topped it off. I love experimenting new food and can’t wait to keep indulging, but I better find a gym ASAP or I’ll be coming back home next year looking like high school Monica Geller!
