“Food – The Key To My Heart”
What better way to spend a sunny Saturday afternoon than at the largest open-air food market in America? Situated in New York, Smorgasburg is a super popular foodie market with 100 stalls serving sweets, savouries and tasty drinks.
The market is held in three locations, Friday’s it’s at the World Trade Center, Saturday’s by East River State Park and Sunday’s in Prospect Park. I went to the East River location with a couple of friends, and it had such a beautiful view of the city. We tried the BBQ boneless wings which were super crispy on the outside yet juicy and tender on the inside. The jerk chicken and rice was delicious too but really filling, so maybe stay away from this one if you want to try lots of different cuisines.
Since I’m greedy, I managed to squeeze in a dessert – super fluffy pancakes to be precise. It was topped with Nutella and had a dollop of whipped cream on the side. I enjoyed it, but it definitely needed more chocolate because the pancakes were so thick. My friends ordered the blueberry cheesecake pancake and it was so much nicer than mine (I may have been a little jealous that I didn’t get the same as them). It didn’t taste like cheesecake which I guess is a good thing if you’re not a fan of cheesecake like me. The strong burst of blueberries tasted amazing and the pancakes were so soft and fluffy. I’d definitely recommend trying these if you visit. The stall is called Fluffy’s.
The price for the food at the stalls averaged at $10 – $15, so watch out or you might end up spending a lot if you’re looking to try food from different stalls! I saw these really cool drinks that were served in watermelons and pineapples, but we arrived an hour before the market ended and by the time I wanted to grab one, they were already packing up. So if you’re going to visit, make sure you get there in good time and don’t miss out on anything like I did! The stalls run from 11:30am – 7pm on a Friday, and 11am – 6pm on Saturday’s and Sunday’s.
